             abstract = "In spite of its aggressive pace of land conversion, very few 
                         attempts have been made towards the systematic monitoring of the 
                         Brazilian Cerrado. With this respect, in this paper we present the 
                         change detection approach being implemented within the scope of 
                         the Integrated Deforestation Warning System for the State of 
                         Goi{\'a}s (SIAD GO). The expectation is that the change detection 
                         algorithm, based on the comparison of filtered MODIS vegetation 
                         index images of different dates and on the use of appropriate 
                         change thresholds, will be fully operational by June 2005.",
